Novak Named First Ever Sprint Football Coach at CCSJ

The Crimson Wave Athletic Department is excited to announce the appointment of Jason Novak as the first sprint football head coach at Calumet College of St. Joseph.  The Crimson Wave announced the addition of sprint football in June of this year joining the new formed Midwest Sprint Football League that will play its inaugural season in the fall of the 2022.

"I am extremely excited to have Coach Novak leading our sprint football program.  He embodies the mission at CCSJ and I believe he will incorporate this mission into the program and the young men that brings to the program.  Coach Novak is full of excitement and passion for the game of football and we are proud to have him on the sidelines for the Crimson Wave.

Novak comes to the Crimson Wave from Andrean High School where he is currently serving as the Offensive Line Coach and Run Game Coordinator for the duration of the 2021 season.  During the 2020 season, Novak helped lead the 59ers to the Northwest Crossroads Conference Championship and a IHSAA Class 2A Sectional Championship.

"I want to thank President Amy McCormack, Vice President of Athletics Johnny Craig, and Director of Athletics Andy Marks for the opportunity to build our Sprint Football Program from the ground up. I knew immediately in our first conversations that we shared the same passion in helping student-athletes to become the best versions of themselves on and off the field. I look forward to talking to high school coaches and players to explain to them what Sprint Football is and what it can offer them. This is a huge opportunity for high school athletes from The Region to continue to play football at the next level and receive a superb education while transforming into great husbands and fathers when they graduate," said Novak.

Novak spent the 2019 campaign with Portage High School as the Offensive Line Coach after five seasons as the Head Football Coach at East Chicago Central High School.  While at East Chicago Novak led the Cardinals to their first Great Lakes Athletic Conference Championship.  He was named the GLAC Coach of the Year.

Clark High School in Hammond gave Novak his start as a head coach during the 2012 season.  He spent two seasons with the Pioneers.

"We love that Coach Novak has local ties because recruiting in the Region is a primary goal of ours.  CCSJ has much to offer local student-athletes.  Sprint football, with Coach Novak at the helm, will open up avenues for those looking to stay close to home for their college education, while playing a sport that they love," said Johnny Craig, Senior Vice President of Athletics, Enrollment and Marketing.
