Tosky, Bass, and Mellecker earn MVP honors as Pomeroys, Hawks, and Knights headline postseason honor roll

The second season of Midwest Sprint Football came to a close with a repeat matchup of the inaugural championship game where last year's host, Calumet, lost to St. Mary-of-the-Woods, but a different ending. The Crimson Wave completed the comeback season, starting off the year 0-3 and finishing with six straight wins, including a 31-0 championship shutout over the Pomeroys.

Most of the season's conference standings board was led by Bellarmine, who remained undefeated until the final game of the regular season where Quincy upset the Knights 28-18. Bellarmine and St. Mary-of-the-Woods both ended the regular season with a record of 6-1 and share the title of Regular Season Champions. 

SMWC secured the most all-conference awards with 13 players making the list, Quincy is second most with 12 players, and Bellarmine earned 11 all-conference honorees. Calumet and Fontbonne each had 9 recipients, Oakland City and Walsh each had 5, and Midway received 4 all-conference representatives. 

In addition, there are 15 recipients of the Captains of Character award, who throughout the season embodied integrity, leadership, respect, responsibility, and sportsmanship on and off the field. Caleb Murray (Bellarmine), Brenden Reid (Bellarmine), Robinson Hale (Calumet), Alexander Dellaechaie (Calumet), Zachary Allison (Fontbonne), Kyron Washington (Fontbonne), Tyson Thomas (Midway), Luke Guerrero (Midway), Johnny Thompson (Quincy), Trae McVey (Quincy), Brayden Wathen (Oakland City), Solomon Dawson (Oakland City), Kana'i Acosta-Mendoza (St. Mary-of-the-Woods), Nolen Noel (St. Mary-of-the-Woods), Alex Cha (Walsh).

Three player's season performance shined, all receiving numerous Player of the Week honors, to each earn 2023 MSFL MVP distinction. 

SMWC's Jeremiah Tosky (Jr., QB, El Paso, TX) is the 2023 Offensive MVP after leading the conference during the regular season in Passing Yards with 1567 yards, throwing for 16 touchdowns, and a 59% completion rate. Tosky also had 264 Rushing Yards in 37 attempts, scoring 6 touchdowns of his own. 

Receiving the 2023 Defensive MVP honor is Fontbonne's Avion Bass (So., LB, St. Louis, MO). Bass finished the season with a conference leading 88 total tackles, 46 solo tackles, and 42 assists. Bass also leads the conference in sacks with 8.5 for a loss of 70 yards, and tackles for loss of yards with 19 for a loss of 97 yards. 

Rounding out the MVP honors is the 2023 Special Teams MVP, Bellarmine's Caiden Mellecker (Fr. K/P, Tampa, FL). Mellecker was a constant for the Knights throughout the season, making three extra points kicks and four field goals, the longest being 43 yards. Mellecker also punted a total of 804 yards in 21 tries, averaging 38.29 yards, and knocking 7 in the opposing endzone.

Finally, securing the 2023 MSFL Coach of the Year award was Bellarmine's Coach Harold Davis after leading his team to 6-2 overall, improving from last season's 4-3 record, which included the Knights being undefeated for 6 games.
